I'm having a bit of a problem. I bought a 25 pack of philips 1-16x dvd+r's and i download dvd ready files and it seems some of them play flawlessly on my ps2 but some of them wont read anything past chapter 3 if i select it from the menu but they play perfectly on my main dvd player which is a philip dvd-701 standalone player... just curious if there is a reason they are doing this... i just find it wierd that some dvds play everything fine on my ps2 im using the same dvds and files from the same source but some have that problem but all have no problem on my other dvd players..

    HELP !

    thanks in advance

I use dvd shrink to make the iso's and burn them with alcohol 120%

I burned at 4x speed but for some reason it said 3.8x speed or something the file is 4.35gigs

Old PS2 is very picky - The new slim PS2 is more relaxed in it's view on different media types. But one thing I've learned is to only use DVD-R for my PS2.

WHY do people just can't help saying they DOWNLOADED DVD ready files or any other obvious "no no " files! That could be free concerts or it could also be Hollywood movies ( more likely ). Don't say where you got it from. Please!!!!!

Now, if as you state, they are DVD ready, why then are you reconverting to ISO to burn? If you have a set of TS folders with the proper files in it you can burn the files in your VIDEO_TS folder as a DVD/Movie with NERO. No need to convert to anything else. If you want to shrink it ( say it's too big ) then yes can use srhink and burn with whatever, although the best method is Shrink to ISO, burn with decrypter or ImgBunr. 100% results everytime. Now for the most probable cause of your disks not playing or skipping. Media my friend. Phillips???? Not the best!

Invest in TayoYuden. Can be had fropm $30 to $40 / 100 anywhere on the net.

Next time just say, I have "Blank" and when I to "Blank" it does "Blank"

Volunteer the source and whether it is legal or not, it will open up a can of worms. At least in my eyes and I don't think I'm the only who "reads" between the lines.

Dvd-r is fine , but ps2's is dvd+rw for everything ... the most commonly used for all backup's .

Just as dvd topset player's are not all equal ... neither are ps2's when in comparison ...

Just because it play's fine in a topset dvd player dosent mean it should play in the same manner on the ps2 .

This is caused by two issue's :

    1: Media problem .
2: Poor / incorrect dvd navigational command's used when authored .

Finally ... as for this statement for jtoolman2000 :

"Invest in TayoYuden. Can be had fropm $30 to $40 / 100 anywhere on the net"

It make's no sence in buying media from outside local area ... if it is crap , it will cost you twice as much to get it replaced .

You might find that brand for that price , but pay double to get it sent to you ...

Read my last statement very carefully ...

I said "backup's" ... there was no mention of ilegal activity being commited by you .

    ---------------------------

jtoolman2000 ... you may very well be correct ... but READ the statement carefully ...

Buying media from outside your local area can cost you more ... much more .

Initial purchase + postage + poor packaging / handling + incompatable burner + return of good's + "-" restocking fee if not found to be faulty = out of pocket big time and stupid ...

There is no guarantee that this particular brand will work with this user's burner well ... there may be other factor's to consider before jumping the gun and buying media from outside local area .

    ---------------------------

We have had many package's turn up here , and those that fail fall into specific groups .

Media dropped / returned by another user , in the shop can render it useless .
Storing it incorrectly can render it useless .
Poor initial production ... bad batch released by manufacturer .

So alway's try local first ... it could save you more than just a headache .

  10. PS2's have onboard DVD laser alignment programs. aka Ps2 diag. Used to adjust your laser so it reads dvds/cds better.

Could it be that the PS2 is a OMG a gaming console? Maybe it does not like to play certain movies encoded in a certain way because it's not a movie player.
