I have 2 wintel machhines & both Pinnacle and ULead burning software, and can not get either one to produce a decent SVCD from my SONY DV camera home videos. Is there anyway to honestly get this to work and look as good as a DVD (like they say)? It appears that the rate limiting step is the burning step because the videos look great edited together but I end up with grainy pixelated coasters. Does iMAC work?

To make good video quality SVCD's search and get TMPGenc (free), load the SVCD template and set the quality settings as high as you can. It will be slower to render then with the other programs (Ulead / Pinnacle).
Burn to CD with Nero or any other app that won't re-encode the video. Even high motion scenes should look very good. This works for me.
