HI
Thansk for reading. I'm not talking about the difference between DVD+R, -R, Rw media etc... I know all that. The reason I'm asking is that I bought a while back a DVD +R media very cheap ( I think $10.00 for 50) and when I try to record using either my DVD player or making a DVD video in my computer it didn't work in any player. And I thought I lost the money and it was a junk. I know that some player don't play some DVD media. I thought that this media was useless at leat at first. Untill I relized that I could actually use to burn data, any data. And later on I found out something even better. I could burn mpgs videos (I guess I do mpeg-1) and 2 of my 3 dvd players plaid the mpg video just fine. But the thing is I ran out and I can't fine it anywhere to buy again. And it was a lot better then use the 70/80min CD Rs. I could burn 4 to 7 movies with it. My computer reads just fine. Any computer that reads DVD reads just fine. I try burning the same mpg file with the new DVD media I bought a Fujifilm 8X DVD +R and now it doesn't work.
So that's Igues that's my question. Do media have different types like that that can only burn data instead making a videos? I read before whan I'm buying that there are silver color etc... So maybe that's it. I lost the paper outside the box with the name so that ins't helping me. The CD itself says Value Disck R+. I checked the videohelp site and I could find some info here but I googled and went to many other sites and I can't find to buy. What kind media was the old media that could burn data and the new media doesn't ? If anyone can help me I appreciated. Thanks

Using value brand media is a huge gamble... One time it's good, the next time it sucks. If you want to eliminate problems, stick with Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. Otherwise, search the forums for info about your particular burner and firmware, and find out exactly which media codes people are having good luck with . Some cheaper media will work fine in many burners, but you need to be very careful. For example. Ritek used to be very good media. Now it is junk. If you insist on using bargain media, I suggest you spend weeks reading forum posts on how to determine what media code you are buying (manufacturer, where made, description of containers, etc).. Reason being, if you go a buy Memorex 8x dvd's, you could be getting any one of about 6 different media codes (types of media). A few of them are ok, but the rest are crap..

HI Rob
Thanks for your answer. So they are different, besides being +/-, R and RW. I'll look around to find some info about the codes and find one that is the same code as the value disk. I don't really care about the quality, or if will last. What I really liked it was because it was cheap and easy to useso I can watch the videos with the TV not the computer but probably I wont watch too many time if it goes bad later on is fine with me. And the fact that I can have few movies in one DVD instead using 2 CD medias for 1 movie. I was reading about doing SVCD in DVD media to do the same thing but is so much more work then I was doing it might not be worth it. Thanks -
As far as +r, -R, RW, RW is basically used for testing, or maybe copying a movie that you watch once or twice, then reformat and make a new one. Plus or Minus R, is basically which ones work best with your burner and standalone player. Good quality RW's are pretty safe to backup data to, but many are not. Some DVD players don't like RW media. Check the DVD Player area of this site, and check the DVD Burner forum, and see what is best for your particular setup/situation.

HI
That's is what I was able to find out right here at videohelp https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=2096&searchdvdplayer=4117
Now that I figure that the DVD media has different codes. The Value disc has a CMC MAG.F01, not that I really know what that means yet but I'm looking into that. I also found out that some of this brand have the same code CMC MAG.F01. Memorex, HP, Dynex, KHypermedia,Value Disc https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediadvdridsearch=CMC%20MAG.F01%20&searchdvdplayer=4117
As soon as I learn a little more about codes I'll look this other brands.
Now I see what you mean about RW that might be a better choice for me including economically if it works like I'm imagining. I'm not really familiar with them since it is more expensive, I never bought it. I remember when CD medias came out the RW media you could erase the data if you chose but then that part of the CD couldn't be used anymore. Are the DVD RW still like that? Or Can they be recorder over and over again just like the old regular blanc cassette?
I know that my burner can play/record both +/- and R/RW. My players I know that can play +/- R/RW, and the one that records can only do it with +. I guess I have a lot more to learn to find out why this media worked like it did. Thanks -
Then poblem an also come from the DVD burner and the burner software you use. Which burner and what software are you using ?

You might take a look at lordsmurf's site for DVD media information. He has some good explanations about media quality and brands: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
