    Hi,

Speed is not only limited by the DVD drive, but also by the BUS Master IDE Controller chip, I remember using a computer that came with an Intel Chip and the transfer speed was 2 times faster than my new machine which comes with a VIA.

The new SATA controllers also offer much better data transfer.

Get a BenQ 16x and you will be fine.

Lite-On SOHD-16P9S is the king when ripping for speed. $20 at NewEgg.

I installed that liteon drive on a pc I built last month for a friend and was disappointed in the performance of ripping. It was so slow compared to my BENQ 1640's & 1650's. I even applied the hacked firmware for the drive but my BENQ 1640's & 1650's still ripped faster than the liteon. :P
