If your source RM is 4:3 ratio, try to set the output as 16:9 in WinAVI.

<rant>Seems like each and every one who tries to convert fansubbed anime for TV playback comes here with that question.
Why can't those fansubbers learn to properly position their subs within the TV safe area?</rant>
The only safe way to cure this is to add some black border around the picture to compensate for TV overscan, and I really think that's beyond WinAvi's scope.

exactly as mats said, it is TV overscan issue.

when you work with WinAVI, make sure you choose "Source Aspect Ratio" as 16:9 as well as to "Target Aspect Ratio", instead of default Auto Mode.

the final result video you play with your player would probably allow you to play in full screen or wide screen, at least my player allow me to change the playback ratio.

I have been using WinAVI to convert rm video all the time, no doubt it is the fastest encoding program around but at average quality.

  6. Yeah thanks for the replies. I Learned right now that I can make the screen size smaller so I am going to make it look like widescreen so that should fix the problem. Do you guys know what codecs(Video, audio) for the anime.

What codecs you should use? Whatever you want!

Though XVID seems to work well enough for Initial D Fourth Stage stuff that I've seen...
