I recently returned from Russia (BRRRRRR...yes it was COLD) anyway, I had a friend help me document a conference with his Sony Mini DVD Camcorder, I used my usual Canon and Sony DV Tape Camcorders.
Question! --- how can I convert his VOBs to AVIs for editing in Vegas 6b. I tried to convert them to mpegs using VOB to Mpeg software but the file is soooo jerky on the time line of Vegas that I can't use it. It's just to unstable. Are there any suggestions from the Pros out here??

Thanks in advance for your help

    Easiest way.

Which country do you think your friend bought that camcorder?

Vegas should read a 720x480 VOB directly as MPeg2 although you will have trouble with audio.

Then I can't explain the jerky playback. Try importing the VOB directly into Vegas. Rename it as "MPG" if necessary. Keep Vegas at project DV format.

Once the video runs smoothly, others can advise you of audio extraction.

    I'm not importing DVD currently.

I actually did rename the file to .mpeg and that is when I notice the jerky motion.

PS: Best to try short clips first until you get the process worked out. MPeg2 to DV will take awhile to convert.

Did you "selectively prerender" or "render to new track"?
