help with burning .ogm and .mkv files

I have several .ogm and .mkv files that I would like to burn to a dvd. I would like to change the files so that they can be like an .avi file, where there is only one language and one subtitle. What do I need to do in order to burn them to a dvd? I am a newbie with computers, so any steps or information will be gladly appreciated. Please consider that I lack the monetary funds to purchase a dvd-making program. Thank You so much for helping me out!

I do not understand your response. Could you please be a little more specific? I recently tried converting an .ogm file to .avi using this tool. I used 1500 (width) by 1000 (height). The only problem was that the subtitles were very small and therefore hard to see.

I really wouldn't recommend 1500x1000. That is a very odd resolution and isn't mod16.

Surely for ogm it can directstream the video? ogm video is always avi compatible.

What is mod16??? What resolution would you recomend? I did not understand the last two sentences... Sorry

mod16 means that a number is divisible by 16.

I'd recommend the same resolution as the source.

I mean that surely the app can just copy the video, then you don't need to worry about resolution.

It is always possible to take video from an ogm and remux to avi.

I was able to do it. Can you do something about the quality? I already have it at the highest quality of alltoavi

alltoavi as as high quality as you want it to go

get the latest version which is 2.1.16 from http://sourceforge.net/projects/alltoavi

in the Bitrate box you can type something like 1200 and with Codec you can use XVID or anyother MEcnoder supported codec, you ned to check MEncoder man page for those.

also, when u say highest quality of alltoavi reached.. i'm not really sure what you meant, do you mean u choose the highest you saw in the list?

Yeah i did, it says high quality, large file and then it says 1000 kbps.

What would be a good number to type?? One that gives optimum quality and does not make the file too big??

you normally want to have the same quality as the original for max quality, but i'd say 1200 is probably max
