Hello! Have been searching forum, but not found explicit answer to this question (as a new video voyager I am afraid I need one! LOL!) - my searches have revealed complexities that at this place in my learning curve are a bit beyond me!
I have an ADVC300 (new in box), Adobe Premier Pro, Pentium 4 - 2.4, plenty of disc space, 1 Gig of memory.
Would greatly appreciate suggestions as to which brand and model of VCR, with which features would be recommended and compatible for use with the ADVC300.
My purpose is to archive old VHS to DVD - I do NOT need to bypass Macrovision.
Apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere, and thanks in advance for any help!

Look at the upper range JVC S-VHS units. Use S-Video out to the ADVC.

Thanks! Am looking on eBay as well as for new, although new VCRs seems to have taken a dive in quality - can you supply some model numbers?

Search the forum, these decks have been extensively described.

I have a JVC 9911U. Although it is good for cleaning video(has noise reduction), it takes away detail. Take a look at this thread that was just started. People will be adding comparisons of different VCR's to it. Then judge for yourself. I will add my JVC 9911 captures soon. Also take a look for a used Panasonic AG-1970/AG-1980. Those seem to keep more detail than my JVC 9911.

OK - Got a used Panasonic AG-1980 in and am initially testing it out with my TV, a 10-tear-old standard CRT Sony.
1 - Have played two tapes - 1 - short commercially produced intro tape that came with something I bought, and 2 - a tape recorded with my old Hitachi.
Tape #2 plays fine, but Tape #1 stops playing every few seconds. The cassette Tape #1 is in seems to be a cheapie and is a bit tight on loading due I think to a little unevenness in its construction. Could this cause the "stops playing" problem?
2 - Also, I notice screen noise and a dropoff in sound volume on my TV screen when in VCR Mode - noise consists of "swimming" lines, which can be on either diagnonal, almost horizontal, or almost vertical and can vary in intensity and sometimes disappear althogether.
Am using the same cables I have been using with my old Hitachi FX-623, which does not seem to have this screen noise problem.
Any thoughts on what might be causing the noise problem are appreciated!
Cheers!

Are we allowed to sell our vcrs on the forums?
I have a JVC HR-S9500 with less than 50 hours on it.
I emailed baldrick but didn't receive an answer whether or not this is allowed...
