  1. Hi,

I was thinking about creating better looking titles and credits on my movies and wondered if anyone knew any animation software that was good for this kind of thing, as I'm trying to find a way of yeilding better result than my current simplistic approach, of only using photoshop and my editing software.

Being the cheapskate that I am, I use BluffTitler or Heroglyph. Which one depends on the job (pay or free) that I am doing.

I also use Boris Graffiti for a more classier titler.

BluffTitler is standalone while the others can be used as plugins for some NLEs.

Hard to beat Boris Graffiti by much.

Most NLE's have internal titlers. Need more specifics.

Boris is good, & there are a few others. Some folks use Ulead Cool 3d Prod Studio. Maxon I think is a company that makes 3d software popular with video folks. Could even get away with some of the far cheaper 3d apps. AE is well known for the compositing end of things, but again you have several choices depending on the size of your bank balance. For compositing, can do batch work with P/shop, or there are a few other graphics prog. that specialize in that sort of thing. Or use your NLE.

The secret, if there is such a thing, is if you want to show it on TV, keep the colors within spec, avoid pure saturations, avoid thin lines, and blend your title into a shadow that fades into transparency on the alpha layer. If you must use chroma key, but try to avoid it using alpha if you can.
