  1. Who makes reliable DVD-RW media? I bought some Fuji discs awhile back after some recommendations here, a few uses later some of them are crapping out already. I want to use them in a standalone. Are slower speed discs better in standalones?

I have tried using a 4X -RW on my Sansui combo deck with no luck - can't remeber the brand.

I've had my best luck using 1-2X Optowrite -RW's. Purchased them from AllMediaOutlet. Have also used the -RW's from CompUSA, their own brand, also a 1-2X.

    Hope that helps.

    I use:
Fuji (RICOH or MKM/MCC, I forget)
    TDK (TDK)
    Maxell (MXL)
    Sony (SONY)

I have been using many of these since 2004. Only lost 2-3 out of 75 after many uses. A few more I scratched or was careless with. Most of them are still good.

  4. Do you just delete and reuse or do you do a full erase? The Fuji discs are MCC, they haven't been used over 5 times and 2 out of 10 discs I've had problems with. What about Verbatim? I've been reading pretty good reviews on them.

I have one DVD-RW and its a TDK. I think I had it since 2002 or the latest 2003. Still works good and have used it for testing a lot of times.

I just do the equivalent of a quick erase, on the DVD recorder. Takes 1-2 minutes to blank out a disc. Data is still there, just marked for overwrite. You can retrieve it if needed.

I'm using Fuji +RW's (Ricoh), my liteon DVD-Rom sometimes has trouble ripping them but my Pioneer burner has no problems. I haven't used them much though, maybe 10-12X.
