    Now he tells me!!!

I figured there must be an easier way, but (I posted this to someone else privately) I was in an interesting dilemma, time-wise, at the time: This was about 2 days before the contest deadline, and I had other stuff going on at work and home so I was feeling time pressure all over the place. And I knew what I wanted to end up with (in terms of the final map animation), and I thought it was possible there was an easier way ... but the only thing I knew for sure was that I could do it the frame-at-a-time way in X hours, at X stress level. So it was a bitch, but a known bitch.

Being I still had other stuff to do with the movie, I decided it was too risky to experiment with unknowns (other methods) because if they didn't work, I'd be screwed. So I went with the devil I knew, versus the devil I didn't know. Sorta like at work sometimes somebody will have some weird comptuter problem where we'll go, "We're not sure what's going on with X piece of software but they need this computer by 3pm. If we just Ghost a new image on, it'll for sure be done by 2:30, if we start now. If we try to fix the problem in another way, it may take us only five minutes ... but if it doesn't work, and we end up having to Ghost it, it won't be done until 4pm."

"So, which road do we take? And, most importantly, who can we blame this on if we screw up?"

Yes when all else fails, you can always do it by hand. I would have gone with the Handwriting filter in Wax2, but then you'd have to learn yet another tool.

Good job on the effect and the film! I liked it a lot.
