Are there different types of Svideo cables that work better than others? The futureshop loser was trying to sell me on some 100 dollar monster svideo cables. I laughed at him at first and then thought i should do some fact finding of my own. Your opinions?

Other than basic build quality (sturdiness, wire gauge etc.), pretty much any cable will work as good as another

Monster is a bunch of BS. Don't buy into their marketing but also don't buy cheap 99 cent cables.

I agree that Monster is overrated. However, I once bought a $15.00 HDMI cable online and had to send it back, because of a loose connection. Don't go *too* cheap.

yea, i'd say go a little above mid range to be on the safe side...monster cable is REDICULOUSLY overpriced...yes, it does work awesome, but so does the cabling thats one notch below it that costs 1/4 the price.....even stuff like radio shack brand gold plated cable works pretty good. Myself, i use around a 30 dollar s-video cable that i picked up one day on a spending rampage at best buy...spent something like 2500 bux that day, so i just tacked on the cable like most people tack on a soda or candy or something like that....spent WAY too much there that day.

Yeah, after the HDMI cable fiasco, I bought a gold-plated HDMI cable from my local cable company for $50.00. Circuit City wanted about $100.00 to $120.00 for a Monster HDMI cable.
The one I got from my cable company was twice as long, too. -
Short, thick, and moderately priced. Have seen no visible difference among cable except for the absolute cheapest POS was slightly worse.

Never got a chance to test Monster s-video, but I agree that it's unlikely that they are better than more moderately priced cables.

Just get any S-VIDEO cable and it will VERY LIKELY work perfectly. The reason for this: the signal out of a DVD player is quite robust and a bit of problems on the way to the TV will not be significant.
The only times where you really need very high quality cables are:
a) when the signal is very weak, so you do not want added noise or losses
b) when the signal is *VERY STRONG* so that signal reflections can damage your devices.
Neither case is true for the application you have in mind (connecting a DVD player to a TV).
