    Hi,

I have a few questions concerning capturing in-game footage from my main- to my second pc. The past months I've been doing this by connecting them with an s-video cable from my gfx card on main pc (geforce 5600, upgraded to geforce 7800 gt a few weeks ago) to the tv-card in my second pc (hauppauge wintv 88x).

Benefits compared to programs like fraps and gamecam is that I can use the picvideo mjpeg-3 codec for relatively small file sizes, even for a long time of recording. Also the quality is a lot better I think - much more smooth, fraps gives a huge drop in fps and huge filesizes.

As said above I bought a new videocard a few weeks ago, which resulted in a drop in quality. Here are two screenshots that (hopefully) show the problem:

    Screenshot1 - geforce 5600

    Screenshot2 - geforce 7800 gt

Theres some really annoying lines all over the screen, and I really don't have a clue what causes them or how I can fix it. Does anyone have any idea?

Second question I have - currently I play at 1024x786 and virtualdub compresses it to 786x512. I would prefer playing at 1280x1024, but when I use that resolution, its not scaled down but instead I get the 'panning'.

Is there any way I can possibly record the full 1280x1024 using the same method (or close) as described above? I've looked at some scan converters but I'm not really sure how they work.. And next to that, they are quite expensive.

Thanks a lot in advance, if you need any more info regarding the method I use to capture or about the hardware I use, just say. I'll check the post often

    Vf

The GeForce 7800 GT screen shot is showing interlace.
What looking for is know as VGA Capture Card/Frame Grabber or RGB Capture Card/Frame Grabber which a standard capture can't do that high of resolutions and I'm pettey sure that virtualdub dosen't any of thoses type capture card and there not cheap.

I think one prob. with what you're after might be that if a card or scan convertor sends out a TV signal, it's going to be formatted for the TV screen. I've got a decent converter, and capturing from it is the same as capturing std TV at 720 x 480 NTSC. Maybe that'll help with your considering scan convertors. :P

  6. Noise from some other component is leaking into the video section of the graphics card.

Try changing the spread-spectrum setting in the BIOS. If you have another card right next to the graphics card try moving it to another slot. Try grounding the cases of the two computers together. Try a diffferent refresh rate or resolution.

i removed my soundcard (i wasn't using it anymore anyways, the on-board one is just as good if not better) and all the interferance was gone.

big big big thanks for advising it!

as for the resolution, i think ill just stick to 1024x786, don't feel like spending a lot of money just to make videos i make no profit with
