Can someone please help me burn a DVD, I'm having so much trouble.
I'm using Sonic MyDVD that came with my computer and when I put a 700MB avi/divx movie on it, it brings the file over 6GB!!! What format do I have to convert the avi file so that it will fit on my 4.7GB DVD-R? Also what are some good free programs to use?

MyDVD doesn't support .vob files. It'll only support mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 as the closet DVD formats. It supports others too but not .vob. I tried using DivxToDVD and it won't accept the output format. Would I need to use a mpeg encoder so that it is DVD-ready and doesn't increase in size when I add it to the project?

Once the VOB files went over 6 GIG, use DVDShrink to shrink it back down to the DVD-R size.

Using divx2dvd, you don't need MyDVD.
For AVI to DVD in general, look up that conversion under CONVERT left.

If I just use a mpeg-1 encoder for the AVI file would that then fit on my DVD?

QuEnc will encode to MPEG2 for free. It's slow as heck, of course.

Use DivxtoDVD and just burn the results as a DVD Video. Ditch MyDVD completely
