Was the box sealed? Could be some other customer just swapped the contents so they could get DL disks cheaper.

My strong suspicion is the same as the above reply.

I have had this happen (but never with blank media). Three times, now, at Best Buy stores. Once on a sound card. Once on a SCSI card. Once on a CD burner for a PC.

In all three cases, I was purchasing high quality goods. When I opened the box, I discovered that the product inside was NOT a high quality industry standard product.

Example -- The sound card I wanted was a Creative Labs (whatever was the state of the art at that time). Cost was around $240.00. The soundcard inside was the cheap OEM card ripped from someone's Packard Bell computer. The other cases were somewhat similar -- cheap, lousy product. In all three cases, I am sure someone bought the industry standard "state of the art" product, brought it home, installed it, and put the old part it was replacing into the box. They install any software drivers, and pack the disc back. They even return the manual and warranty card. Then, they simply drove back to Best Buy and announced "I could not get it to work." Or, "this thing is junk" or "I think this is defective."

The scary part -- I now know my local Best Buy has a shrink wrapper in the back, and they are doing what is technically illegal. They are selling returned merchandise as new. (The attorney general of one state -- Ohio -- went after Best Buy over this issue, and the company insists it is not corporate policy, and if it happens it is just the "occasional renegade store.")

I suspect your product has a similar past. Was it shrinkwrapped? Was it sealed in any way?

i saw 3 packs of the double layer dvd's at walmart for like $11 or $12.. pretty good price compared to the $30 & $20 price tag they used to have on them.

I've bought 2 or 3 packs of them over the past month without any problem yet.

I do love these, since they let me burn them at 4x instead of the 2.4x with my NEC 3500 Burner. Oh, never had any problems with them at that speed either.

  15. I bought a WD hard drive from best buy before and opened it up at home only to find a an old Conner drive in it. Best Buy took it back. This was when WD was shipping their retail drives on boxes. Now they ship them in that hard, formed plastic which I appreciate.

Best Buy does have a shrink wrap machine in the back. I used to work for them. You can tell the difference between their machine and the professional shrink wrap jobs done by manufacturers at the plants just by looking.
