I've noticed that ffmpegx gives xvid videos the fourcc code xvid in lower case letters, but that the video will only work for some PC applications (and possibly AVI DVD players) after manually opening the video in a hex-editor and changing the xvid to XVID in capitals.
I'm wondering if there's a reason why ffmpegx lists xvid in lower case letters instead of the seemingly more compatible capital letters.
If there's no drawbacks, maybe a future version of ffmpegx could list the fourcc code in caps. I haven't noticed any problems with playing videos with XVID as the fourcc code.
