  1. What tools can make Jacket pictures?

I've been reading a great many posts about creating Jacket prictures.
Much of the advice on the pictures is several years old and the tools
    used have evolved since then.

I want to create my three images, run one tool one time and get three,
properly named, MP2 files ready for burning. It seems that the only tools
that can do this are Scenarist and DVD Architect. Are there others?

I've seen that option in the latest ProExtensions plugin for DVD LabPro (I haven't tried it yet).

If you mean those inserts for cd and dvd covers , and even the disc itself , then go here and grab intercover .

    http://home.swipnet.se/intertax/intercoveruk.htm (the actual link)

Easy to use , mostly its drag and drop ...

Pity its not included in the download section , maybe "video other"

    Edited :

Fixed link , now at actual download page , no more redirecting rubbish .

As for the actual question , the information in that snipet below only works for specific players , pity there was no info on the players tested that worked with these specs .

Get a newer player that supports jpeg playback .
Place these in the audio_ts folder , as some programs will complain about a third folder on the dvd root as non compliant .

My 3 dvd players support folder navigation , just remember to stick with the naming concepts as mentioned in that snipet , and they should be playable in correct order as numbered .

? , MP2 ...cant be correct ... thats audio isnt it from what I recall .
M2V is video stream , MPG can be video , or combined with audio .

Dvdauthorgui can convert bmps or jpegs into m2v video source .
Use rejig or muxman to convert m2v into vob format , and use naming specs as outlined ... though dumping them into the audio file might work , but still requires a dvd player that supports folder navigation like the xms888 units do .

Will have to give it a test over this weekend , after I finish another two guides ...

    Edited :

Yes , just been around the world in under 90 seconds , and yes , there mpegs ...

  4. @Bjs: not sure what you're pointing to with that link, but it has a bunch of redirects and isn't in English.

I think what the OP is talking about is something like what was asked about in this thread.

The jacket folder is accessed by the DVD player, so that a picture appears on the screen before a movie starts, instead of a blank screen (my player has a blue screen). You can create the folder and put it (with the pics) in your burn composition prior to burning.

My DVD player doesn't play the folder stills, so I haven't done anything with them in years.

Here's a short tutorial by McPoodle that I picked up over at Doom9:

    Code:
    1. Create three images. For NTSC, they should be 720x480, 176x112, and 96x64, while PAL uses 720x576, 176x144, and 96x80. All the rules for creating DVD images apply: create in a 4:3 ratio and re-size to get undistorted images, use the correct RGB color ranges for NTSC, and put the content you want seen within the 5% title-safe area (this last rule probably doesn't apply to the medium and small images).

    2. Use TMPGenc or some other MPEG encoder to convert the images into MP2 files (use your normal DVD encoding parameters).

    3. Give the files the following names for NTSC: J00___5L.MP2 for the large image, J00___5M.MP2 for the medium image, and J00___5S.MP2 for the small image. For PAL, the names are J00___6L.MP2 for large, J00___6M.MP2 for medium, and J00___6S.MP2 for small. Be sure to use zeroes (not capital O's) and to put three underscores in each name. The names are also case-sensitive.

    4. Create a JACKET_P directory off of the root of the DVD (at the same level as AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS) and put the three MP2 files in it.
