OK. I am sure this is a stupid newbie question and I have tried to look it up in search. Of course typing in Nero gives you millions of hits. Then typing in a phrase give me nothing. Just to let you know I have done my due dillegence.
Because I have changed from CD to DVD burners twice, I now seem to have 3 installs of Nero. I just assumed the new install would rewrite over the old ones. Not. I ended up with links that go to different versions. Yikes! I am very frustrated. I find it very confusing. When I did not install the software with this new DVD drive, thinking what heck, I already have Nero installed, it wouldn't work/read a disk. So I installed the software one more time.
I have Nero from my CD writer, a purchased Nero program, one from each DVD writer and the update which finally fixed the problem with DVD-RW's.
Just an aside: I thought my old burner was dying because it only burned DVD+RW so I purchased the LG DVD burner from Sams. I had the same problem. That is when I tried the Nero update. It was one of the many things I had planned on trying and fortunately it worked. Nice thing about the LG burner it is not as picky with commercial DVD's as my NEC burner.
I am afraid that if I uninstall the copies of Nero that the burners won't work again. Any suggestions? Anyone know how this works? Can I just uninstall all the copies of Nero then install the purchase copy adding the update packages without using the stuff that came with the burners? And why do I need InCD in addition to Windows writer? What exactly do I need to install? Help!![]()

You should unistall all versions of nero .
Make sure you have you license for the product for the version you are going to reinstall .
Then reboot pc .
Reinstall the version the update was for (the one that fixed the problem) .
Apply patch .
You wont have any problems .
The multiple installs problem will be fixed .
As for incd , dont know , I tell it to get off , but I think from what I recall it was to do with drag and drop to disc , but xp already supports this function , but waits till you have finished , where as nero , being the right nutter it is , tends to do it immediately .
I never had any success with that thing , thats why its told to stay out of my way .
As for what to install , you may not get a choice , depending on the license that came with the product . Some install everything , and you find the wav editor dosent work , because you need to purchase a license to unlock it . -
Only version of Nero you need is the one you purchased. The updates keep it current, but in your case, with respect to new burners coming out in the market. There is no need to install the version of Nero that comes with a new drive.
InCD is packet writing software that essentially allows your rewritables to behave as removable drives. You can write and erase individual files. I personally have no use for this. It is not necessary to install if you have no need of it.TANSTAAFL -
1.Write down the Nero serial number.
2.Go HERE and download Nero Clean Tool(s).Run program(s) and reboot.
3.Install Nero 6 or 7(ver. 6+ has a built-in drive recognition TOOL so you don't need to update or reinstall everytime you buy a new writer).
4.Get latest update from above link and install.
I agree with the previous posters that InCD is useless because I use multi-session Data. Also InCD can conflict with other packet writing programs such as DLA. -
Thanks for the responses. My purchased version of Nero is 6.6 but it did not recognize the new drive. I will still try the suggestions given and see what happens.
Thanks again.
