  1. Okay, I'm not sure how to explain this, but I will try my best. What I want to do is record what I am doing on my computer. For example, if I am playing a video game and I want to record footage of that video game, how would I go about doing so? Is there a program that captures your computer screen activities and records it into an .avi or some kind of container?

I would need something that records both monitor video and sound. If anyone can help or needs more information, feel free to post. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Try something like fraps (uncompressed avi though - huge files).

There are many other divx capable screen recorders out there as well.

I second fraps - an excellent little tool. You just need a big (huge) hard drive for the uncompressed AVI.

Look in the "Desktop/Screen capture" category of the "Tools" section for others.
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.

  5. You could use the MPEG-4 codec to capture with CamStudio, high quality without the huge file size.

Moviegeek - I had installed that mpeg-4 codec you suggested and tested it with fraps thinking you were referrin to that.

Now fraps crashes the game when I hit record!! I can still play the game if I don't use fraps but the recording won't work.

I used a codec tool in the tools list on videohelp to disable the three mpeg4 vki codecs but it still crashes when I try to record with fraps.

    Any ideas?????

Its not urgent since I can still play the games but its weird.

FYI - sorry for going a little offtopic here.

Have a look at HyperSnap-DX, it can take screen snapshots and also record basically anything on your screen, including DirectX source to screenshots or video
