I have been struggling with this for about a week without any success. I have been using Windvd Creator 2 on my Dell laptop for over a year without any issues. I have recently got a new desktop Pentium 4, 3 Ghz. with Sapphire X600PRO card in it. I am having problems capturing from my Sony Digital Camcorder with Windvd Creator. Everything seems to be OK until I install Windvd Creator. I mean, until then, as soon as I connect my camcorder through Firewire, a window pops up asking me what I want to do. One of the options is "capture video with Windows Movie Maker". If I select that option, Movie Maker Capture window opens with playback controls displyed with which I can control my camcorder.

However, as soon as I install Windvd Creator and when I conncet my Camcorder, first time the window does appear but if I choose, Movie Maker, then the capture window does not show any playback controls. On the other hand if I select Windvd Creator from the popup window and then click on Capture within Windvd Creator, I am shown two options for Capture source, Sony DV Cam and ATI Radeon Capture device. If I click on Sony, the camcorder does some whizzing and turns off. No controls are shown whatsoever. And the worst part is even if I uninstal Windvd Creator, I still have the same problem. I did the system restore several times but to no use. I had to reformat my drive 3 times to try to make it work but no luck yet.

Please help if anyone can. I am using Windows XP Pro SP 1, Pentium 4, 1 Gig RAM and 250 Gig HD.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help...

    Subhash.

  2. Clarify - are you saying that after the re-format, and without installing WinDVD Creator, it does not work as before? This would indicate some mechanical fault in the camera or possibly cable or firewire card.

Are you saying that after the format, but before the install of WinDVD Creator, it works correctly but the install "breaks" it, and that a system restore does NOT fix it but that a re-format DOES??

This would indicate that an existing system file has been "updated" by WinDVD Creator, that is why the uninstall does not fix it. Check your System and System32 files, sort by date, look for DLL files. Either check the list in both cases or Google the new DLL's, pretty sure you'll find one.

Now the fun part. Either check the software maker for a new file, and hope it is better, or overwrite the new file with the older one, and hope the prog still works. Or find another one.

Yes. After reformat but before installing WinDVD Creator, everything works fine. As soon as I install WinDVD Creator, it gets screwed up.

To be honest, I am hesitant to reinstall it again unless I am almost positive it is going to work because reformatting and reinstalling everything else is a lot of work. Are you aware of any such conflict or if you can give me some clues as to what files could possibly have been overwritten by WinDVD Creator, then I can backup those files before installing WinDVD Creator and later replace them with the backup.

Some more info will really be useful.

    Thanks for your help.....
