  1. Hello all,
I have a problem converting an AVI movie to DVD format. I am using the program Avi2DVD with TmpGenc encoder. Only in certain movies I have a problem in the conversion that
results in a sluggish movie that is slow in the sound and also in the video. It is as if the sound of the characters is very very low, and distorted and the whole movie is moving slow. I do not know what exactly makes this happen because other movies can be converted without any problem at all. Maybe it is the movie's soundtrack that is in AC3 5 channels I dont know. I tried to find a solution for this but could not.

    Please advise.

    Thank-you.

This is sometimes a problem when using firstly a on-click wonder software, and secondly material that has found its way to you via the web (presumably).

Maybe try DixvToDVD, or if you want to learn "the process", http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmaelnko/AVI2DVD.htm should be beneficial.

Also, use GSpot on your source file(s) to see what you have before conversion. This will tell you straight away if you've got AC3 or the dreaded VBR MP3 audio.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Hi again,

How do I check please if the sound track is MP3 VBR? Why is it "dreaded"? Is it bad for conversion?
What can be done if it is indeed so.

    Thank-you.

VBR MP3 can result in sync problems

  5. Hi,

I checked the movie through G-Spot and the audio tab says it is AC-3 5 channels with 48Khz. and the sound is CBR not VBR.

    Any ideas about this?

    Thank-you.

You should be able to demux the AC3 with virtualdubmod and just convert the video only with TMPGEnc. Then when you author you select your converted video file and your AC3 file and let your authoring software multiplex them for you.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. Hi again,

    Thanks for the reply.
Please bear with me a few more minute

I would like to ask another thing. When you mean demux, what is the difference between this and *saving* the film's sound track?
When I demux the sound track what does Vdub save it as *.wav or *.ac3?
Also, what could I do with this next? Which software should I use to *bring them back together"? What if I wish to add
subtitles to the film, which program should I use to do so?

    Thank-you.

Demuxing just strips the audio out, retaining the same format it is in, so in your case a demux would retain the 5.1 ch AC3. Then you would need to author with authoring software that supports subtitles. DVD-lab comes to mind, or there are others in the Tools section.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. Hi again,
I would appeciate some more help here.
It seems like Avi2DVD has a problem converting movies that are AC3 2Channels
I found this out yesterday when I tried to convert a movie that has a soundtrack like this with CBR audio. The program failed when muxing video & audio.
Because of this I tried something else, I permanently addes subtitles through VdubMod and saved the audio in "Direct Stream Copy" and the video I compressed in Divx 5.0.5 in 1450Kbps. The result movie was fine in every possible way.
Then I went to Nero to convert the movie to DVD but as soon as I added the file Nero crashed on a C++ RunTime error.
I tried TmpGenc DVD author tool but it said the file cannot be converted because of an error in the "ACM". What is this ACM anyway?

    Please advise.
    Thank-you.as well.
