I have a lite-on 24x10x40x CDRW. It works just great, except for the fact that Nero 5.5.7.2 says I can only burn with it at 8X, 12X, 16X, 20X, and 24X. It wont let me do 4X, 2X, or 1X which would be nice for VCDs on lesser quality media. If I put in a CD-RW media, It will let me burn at 4X, 2X, and 1X, so I know it can go that slow.
Does anyone know a work around for this? I've seen the problem posted only once in the forums, and no resolution was ever given.
Thanks!

Wow, you guys keep pumping out the versions...Thanks for all the improvements!
suggestion: how about an auto update-checker built in to nero? I checked your site for FAQs, etc, but never did check the current version, silly me.
I will post my results when I get it DL'ed. -
Lite-on will only allow the slowest burning speed of 8x. There is nothing you can do to change that, no software or firmware upgrade will help.
You could always go out and get a old CD-recorder that will burn at a slower speed. I still have my old Teac 6x -
I know there are differences in how a CDR vs a CDRW is burned, but I would think that they would be mostly in the laser and not the motor speed. The motor speed can certainly go 1x, 2x, and 4x for CDRWs. I would think that a firmware change would allow a CDR burn at those speeds.
any thoughts on the matter? Should I go pester Lite-on for a firmware update? -
Unfortunately, many high speed (24x and up) CD-RW drives are limited as far as what burning speeds are offered; this not is just an issue with Lite-On drives, as I have a LG 24x10x40x that will not allow me lower than 8x either. It seems that drives that use zone-CLV (i.e. for 24x and above) don't like writing slower than 8x on CD-R media. However, I only burn at 24x so it's not much of a bother to me.
