  1. Hi.

    I downloaded GraphEdit from http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/d.../graphedit.html

I unzipped the zip file and clicked on the 'GraphEdt' icon. There wasn't any installation process; the GraphEdit interface window simply popped up. I clicked 'File' from the menu bar and then 'Render Media File'. I then selected a .RM audio file from my harddisk but recieved the following error message:

'Could not construct a graph from this file

    - Have you installed all necessary filters?
    - Note that the 'Render File' menu option cannot render *.GRF files

Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported. (Return code: 0x80040265)'

I read the 'read me' file which instructs-

'To install simply double click on register bat. If it comes up with some errors search for regsvr32.exe and put the full path of that file before every call to regsvr32 in the batch file and run it again.'

I DID get the bunch of errors it mentions but I don't understand what the above instructions are. What do I do? I've found the regsvr32.exe file in the Windows/System folder. How do I put the info in the batch file? I get a black screen with a bunch of bad commands but I cannot edit these at all.

There's also a file called 'SysEnum' in the GraphEdit zip folder. Do I need to click on this also?

    Thanks.

  2. The original post on this topic is old, but just in case anyone finds this forum on a search engine, as I did, and needs help, I am posting a reply. I also ran into trouble when installing GraphEdit and trying to run register.bat.

When I double clicked on register.bat, the screen displayed a bunch of bad command error messages. I read a few comments on different forums from people who had this problem, but I couldn't find any solutions. The only suggestion I saw was something about manually typing in the path name for the regsvr32.exe file before each batch command, but it didn't explain how to do this exactly. Not knowing much about this subject, I was just about to give up on it, but I finally figured out a way to get it to work. There might be an easier way, but I don't know much about solving these sorts of problems, and this worked.

You have to find the regsvr32.exe file (probably in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\). Instead of doing a batch registration of the DirectShow filters (which is what register.bat does), you can register the filter files manually by using Windows Explorer and going to the folder where the GraphEdit files are saved. (You will know which files they are if you try to run register.bat and get the error message because the file names are displayed on the screen.) When you try to open one, a window comes up asking which program you would like to use to open it. Browse to the regsvr32.exe location and open with that. There is a box you can check to tell it to always open this file with this program, and when I did this, the icons for all of the other filter files had changed. I don't know if you have to open each one individually, but I did just in case; when I double-clicked on each of them, a message came up saying that the file had been registered successfully. Then you can run GraphEdit, and the appropriate filters will be displayed in the Graph--Insert Filters menu.

To manually type in the path to regsvr32.exe, simply right-click on register.bat and go to Edit. This should open the file in Notepad. Then go to Edit > Replace, and replace "regsvr32.exe" with "c:\windows\system\regsvr32.exe" (or wherever your regsvr32.exe file sits). Save the file and re-run it.

... and yes, you would need to open each file individually to make it register. That is why there was a batch file - to make this a less onerous task and do them all in one go.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Shouldn't be a need to specify any path since your sys dir is in the path.

To refer back to the original post though. The problem had nothing to do with register.bat, this just installs a few filters like wavdest and for real media files you would need to have real codecs and Gabest real splitter filter installed.
