What writes data discs apart from Nero (refuses to recognise my new liteon drive) or RecordNow (which i am having install problems)

Deepburner and probably Burnatonce are freeware that should work. I'm assuming DVD data discs.
EDIT: I had to upgrade Nero from my favorite 5.5 version to 6.3 to use a Sony burner. I much preferred 5.5. -
Like redwudz, I'm assuming you want to burn DVD data disks.
What has worked for me (perfectly and consistently) is to use Folder2Iso (freeware) to create an iso of the directory you want to burn, and then use DvdDecrypter to burn the iso.
Just to make sure you know, Folder2Iso is only good for DATA disks. If you want to burn a standard dvd (VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories), use ImgTools Classic to make the iso. -
