is it possible to repair a movie with corrupted frames by using a hex editor?

  2. Say I wrote you a letter. Somebody came along and transcribed it with a pencil onto a new piece of paper. But he made some mistakes. Maybe some were simple spelling errors. Maybe he left out entire words or paragraphs. Maybe he just added some random text here and there.

Given only that copy, a pencil, and an eraser, can you fix the letter? Depending on how corrupt it is, you might be able to fix it. But as the number of errors increases, and the complexity of the errors increases, it gets harder and harder. Especially if the letter is written in a language you don't understand.

With a touch more subtlety; probably not.

How many frames? Are the bad frames sequential? Maybe cut out the bad frames. If Ok can you post a sequence of good ---> bad ---> good frames

To answer your question another way that you might understand better as I think jagabo has understated the difficulty of what you propose (a hex editor? Yikes!!!), you'd probably have a better chance of buying a winning lottery ticket than successfully repairing this kind of damage with a HEX EDITOR. Note that demonwarrior did NOT ask if this damage could be repaired using a video editor but specifically asked about using a hex editor.

I have one question for you in case you don't understand my reply either. Exactly how do you expect to find out what the correct hex values are to repair the file? If you can come up with the correct hex values, then you are in a position to try what you propose.

If the problem is minor, try ISObuster. It may help?
