I use virtual dub to get the .avi file ready. then I use tmpgenc to convert the avi to a ntsc dvd movie format, the I use tmpgenc dvd author to make chapters, author and burn it on a dvd. And in the end my dvd movie skips, allthough it play perfectly on a computer, but it allways skips on a dvd player, I use toshiba dv p323-u dvd player, I use lg dvd burner, and I dont know the name of my dvd r, I thru away the label since it is a spindle. since the dvd'r s are 2x I burn the movie at 2x, that is the fastest my lg burner can burn at. So can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong or what should I improove to make my dvd movies no to skip. allso when I dont use chapters it skips less, but still skips.
Thx...

A key issue with Skipping is Media. What brand of media are you using?
-
Try my way , locate my frameserving with virtualdub guide .
Load the avi in virtualdub , extract audio , sellect full processing mode
This allows you to change the output to 48k perfectly
Now use this new wav file as the audio track
Follow my frameservering setup to bbmpeg - outputs for pal mpeg2
Allow bbmpeg to deal with both video and audio , but no to multiplexing
Use besweet to encode this new audio mp2 to ac3 or whatever
Use ifoedit to create new ifo and vobs
This guarantees both video and audio have the same time lenght specs
------------------------------------------------------
Check project size is under 4.3 gigabytes
If not , do the dvdshrink trick to get it down to this size
-----------------------------------------------------
Use dvdauthorgui to create the required menu structure with button highlights .
-----------------------------------------------------
Use pgcedit to edit dvd commands
-----------------------------------------------------
Open the new video_ts ifo file via ifoedit , hit play dvd
Check all works as expected , if no audio , and it has ac3 , you need to install ac3 filter package .
If all is well , burn with imagetools (nero aspi installed prefered)
----------------------------------------------------
Its how I convert between pal and ntsc
I wouldn't trust tmpgenc or dvdlab with a barge pole when it comes to important projects ...
And I have not struck any issue's with any dvd player , by sticking to the rules .
----------------------------------------------------
There are 3 guides by myself (bjs) , and most of the info you need is in those .
If help is needed in pgcedit , just ask me ...
----------------------------------------------------
Your main rules to stick too :
Keep project to below 4.3 gig
Burn at slow speed for better write fixation
Choose good media , tdk or verbatim are good choice
These rules will help with older dvd players that may have issues , mostly related to the blue dye thats used on the media (run too hot)
This can be fixed , but requires a voltmeter and in most cases a small flathead screw driver to adjust the voltage device for the dvd lense .
The voltage adjustment is no more than -0.3volts . -
E3 works and pine are usually the worst dvdr to buy,get better dvdr like fuji made in japan.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
well I got to use my e3works dvd-r's since I got about 50 left, allso I could not find a place where I was suppose to choose the audio file in bbmpg.

i found on my standalone that if a prog makes a vob of less than the usual 1048meg,it will skip,if its not redone in dvd2one,or alike programme, also the media it spits out is all but god quality, like ritek, cmc, etc, and it loves TY,and verbatims of all types.

Since it plays fine on the computer, but skips on the player, it is almost certainly media. Use dvd idenifiier and tell us what the code is. There might be a firmware upgrade for your burner that will make the burner burn the media better, but I doubt it. Yo uprobably need better media.

vob size or media as stated above are most likely. Also, putting labels on your DVD's also causes problems.

my dvd burner is hl-ds-st dvdram gsa-4040b so gsa-4040b is my LG dvd burner. Allso I cannot encode the movie with bbmpeg because I cant find an option where to put .wav file. my .vob files are 1,048,544 kb, exept the last one is 1,004,290. and my movies on tv dvd player starts to loose sound in about 30 min after the movie has started, it goes away for a min then comes back, and on and off untill the movie ends, the video stalls for a about 2 min from time to time, well it gets to the point I cant watch the movie, I have followed the instruction, exect I have encoded with tmpgenc cause I could not find a way to use .wav.

However, if I run files through Nero Vision (which re-encodes everything), the resulting DVDs don't skip. Same batch of discs.
Anyone seen this? -
the problem was with my cd's, not it play really good, BENQ dvd-r are great, compared to the other ones I have used.
