  1. I've been trying out different capture methods using VirtualDub and my TV card. One of the codecs I tried was Microsofts mpeg4 v 2, this seemed to produce a small file size without any discernable quality loss.
I then converted to a VCD type output using Tmpegenc, the quality still looked OK.
Is it alright to use this codec for capturing and then converting for VCD use ? or will it produce unwanted side effects that I haven't come across yet ?
    Any pointers would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Chris.

  2. Go with what works...

However, be aware that realtime MPEG4 is very processor intensive, substantially increasing the probability of frame drops. It is also a highly compressed format, which in reality is discarding more information than a majority of other codecs.

  3. I saw couple of video strips on the web.
They are from Sharp, and Hitachi, and Sony.
They have a lot of block noise. If your codec give a clean result,
is there encode bit rate that we can tune ?

Don't cap in Mpeg 4 if you want to VCD it though.
