  1. is there any way to permenantly add a subtitle (.srt) to an avi file? i know there is way by encoding it to mpeg with virtualdub and tmpg, but i need for it to stay an avi. mpeg takes to much space. thanks in advanced.

install vobsub, be sure to select vobsub for virtualdub and textsub for avsynth and virtualdub under plugins when you install it.

you should now have textsub in the Video->Filter in virtualdub. add the filter and the sub and save as a new avi.

I'd suggest using textsub from vsfilter since it is more uptodate. Also I would suggest using AVISynth to avoid a RGB24 colourspace conversion. Simply copy vsfilter.dll to your AVISynth plugins dir. For VDub rename to vsfilter.vdf and copy to the plugins dir.
