Hello. I was trying to use Virtual Dub for the first time to convert videos to a format for my iRiver. When I go to the "compression" option under "Video" to have XviD as one of my formats, XviD does not show up. I do however have XviD installed on my computer. People from the iRiver forum (hyperlink below) believe that I could have a codec mess problem and I was wondering if there is anything I could do to fix it. Thanks!

Uninstall XVID, and install Keoepi's XVID codec v1.03

I did try uninstalling the XviD codec including erasing anything that came up using that RegCleaner and reinstalled the newest XviD and it still didn't show up as an option on Virtual Dub. That's why I was just curious if there was any other process to clean things up =).

Not to sound sarcastic, but have you rebooted since you uninstalled and re-installed xvid?

Codecs not showing up after install is generally caused by corrupt vidc entries in the registry, Koepi's installler at least used to include a util for checking though.

iriverter being a mencoder frontend it would not have installed XviD as suggested on the other board. mencoder has XviD statically linked.

Also XviD.ax is XviD's dshow filter so it shouldn't effect VfW, but the fact that it was locked is not so good.

I guess manually check your VIDC keys. Should be vidc.xvid "xvidvfw.dll" and there shouldn't be any blank entries.
