  2. Did you do both passes of the two pass encode?

Are you making a two pass encode? The first pass just generates a 'dummy' file for the encoder instructions. The second pass encodes the video. I usually use 'Unrestricted' 'single pass' mode for a setting and a Quantizer setting of '2' for good quality, but slightly larger filesize. That's the quick and easy way. If you want to control filesize and quality, then the two pass method may be a better choice. But you will have to manually select the second pass setting. (The same box as 'Twopass -1st pass' but choose 'Twopass 2nd pass')

Xvid should keep the settings you choose till you change them. Maybe K-lite has damaged the codec. If so, dump K-lite if you can get it off your computer with no further damage, then uninstall and reinstall the latest Xvid version.

You set the codec to "twopass - 1st pass", Save as AVI, then set the codec to "twopass - 2nd pass" and Save as AVI again. After the first pass the AVI will contain no video (it will be all black). During the second pass Xvid uses the log from the first pass to best allocate bits to meet your requested average bitrate.
