    well now i figured out how to create vobs from avi, mpeg1 etc and burn them to dvd, but what about movies over 2 hours long which is about all these dvdr can handle isn't it or can i put something say like 2hr 20 mins on it not the dual layer.

  2. Determine bitrate based on length- use a bitrate calc. and set encode bitrate to achieve the 4.4 gig limit.

    OR- run your compiled dvd folder thru Dvd Shrink as long as it's ~ 20% shrinkage you shouldn't notice a quality degredation.

    I will second the vote for DVD Shrink. I've done this many times and it works great.

    It's always better to encode to the right bitrate (=the one that lets you fit the movie on your media) than to encode at a random high bitrate and then shrink.
    It's very simple to operate a bitrate calculator. No excuse not to use it.
