What determines the compression ratio in huffy, when I capture it can vary from 1.1 to 1.9

The HUF in HUFYUV is a reference to the Huffman compression algorithm.
The codec contains a substitution table that maps the most frequently occuring input value to a token containing the fewest number of bits. The table is precomputed for good performance on a wide range of material, but the actual degree of compression achieved will vary according to the content of the video. It can't otherwise be tuned or optimized.
