  1. Anyone use guideplus to record?

I have a problem with capture in that the guildplus is set up to
record delayed TV (i.e. show comes on at some time later). I get
the recording OK but the file size is huge (like 1.5G).

My ATI MMC7.1 is set up for VCD in the digital recorder so the
files should only be a few hundred Meg per hour of recording. Mine
are 1.5G it seems by default, even for a half hour recording?

    Anyone have a similar problem??

  2. I have not attempted to use Guide Plus. Apparently, it is ignoring your VCD capture setting and doing something different. Is the resulting file even in mpeg format? Try using a program called MPEG Properties to tell you what specs the captured file are, such as bitrate and sound, etc.

I do use MMC 7.1 and my primary complaint with this version since it is the first to offer the option of VCD is that their idea of VCD is not anywhere near complaint to true VCD. Theirs is set to 1.05M bit/sec and true VCD is 1.15. Their bit rate is also variable which is not true to VCD 1.1 specs.

You might try using the latest version of MMC which is 7.5 *i think* and also available for you to download at the ATI web site. Try this update and see if it solves your particular problem. It would be interesting to hear back to see if it does. :o)

  4. Apparently, the ATI Multimedia Center that is floating around as well as being mentioned on several posts here at VCDHelp is an unofficial copy. It was available from the url: http://www.subzerotech.com/news/files/MmcDvd75.exe

But subzerotech has removed the file from their server; maybe they were forced to do so. I had a copy of it but deleted it fearing that changing versions again would result in encoding issues I had when I upgraded last time. I didn-t realize at the time that it was an unofficial version and that it would soon become more difficult to obtain.

ATI Multimedia Center 7.5 is approximately 44mb in size. Knowing now how ATI doesn-t want it in distribution makes me curious and thus now I desire to have a copy again myself. If I successfully find it now I will post back to this thread. I do apologize for stating it was on the ATI website, I just assumed that it was. Moreover, MMC 7.5 is real, it is referenced several times here on VCDHelp.com and it is out there somewhere.

  5. Update: I have located someone that is a member here at VCDHelp who claims to have the illusive ATI Multimedia Center 7.5. I have asked that individual to share it with me. Please reference the following thread on this message forum for more details:

  6. When you set up Guide Plus to record a program it just makes an entry in your ATI MMC program. It uses whatever the MMC program happens to be set to at the time but it is easy to change by going to setup/sheduled recording in the Multimedia center.

This is the way mine works anyway. Of course you may have some kind of bug or other problem but I thought it couldn't hurt to check this first.

I'm using 7.2. Strangely the progam still say 7.1 but ATI assures me that the one on the CD they sent me is 7.2 and it just says 7.1. They seem strangely unconcerned about this.

  7. Yes, I thought that setting up the vcr settings in mmc would be the way to
go. It seems logical that the guide plus would use that setting, but it is not the case for me.

I will try 7.5, if/when I can find it. It is ellusive to say the least.

As many problems as I have with the ATI software, one would think that they would provide upgrades on the ATI site.

    :-?
