  1. But would you trust anything sold by Jeremy Beadle!! And the cheapest one is actually £56. I think I'd spend a few quid more on a half decent machine.

  2. Yeah Beadle is a bit dodge but it plays the lot out of the box no needsfor hacks. When my dvd player goes in the bedroom I think I might bung beadle some of my har earned cash and if I ever do i will let you know.

Sony DVP-NS325B main player, bought for $80. Also a Portland PVD-1000 region-free player used for pal dvds, paid $35. The picture on both looks great

Norcent DP-300 - region hacked. Non macrovision hackable. I settled on this model since it plays PAL anamorphic widescreen with the correct aspect ratio while the earlier model that is macro hackable does not.

Malata 393 - region hacked - great for my Japanese discs in my bedroom.

    RCA 5220P - factory standard

    PS2 version 1 - factory standard

    Apex AD-600A - macrovision hacked

Apex AD-1500 - macrovision and region hacked.

    Panasonic E80 - factory standard

Very surprised at this as my 400 will play any damned bitrate. Are you sure you're using good media.

My goodness, in just 10 months this is almost down to a third, you can pick them up for around the £30 mark, and they're not bad either.
    How quickly hardware prices tumble.
Plus, £80.00 is now worth $145.00

  10. Indeed, its got to the point where instead of buying the player and getting a free movie, you will buy the movie and get a free player!

fun to look back at this now! the price seems to have hit an equilibrium - you might be lucky to find a £25 player but there certainly aren't any £20 ones..... mind you how cheap do you want it! There comes a point where the plastic box is the most expensive part... i think the CD players and cheap-shit CD/tape/radio boomboxes available at Tesco demonstrate this... the prices still gradually come down, but less than a pound a time, so now you can buy one for something stupid like £16.43

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!
