  1. I have a 900 megs mpeg movie that I want to fit on a cd, how can I shrink it to like 700 megs so I can burn it on one cd?

    Can anyone give me directions?

    Thanks

  2. 1) You can cut it in two (see edit section)

    2) You can rerender the video at a lower bit rate. You don't say what the mpeg you have is (MPEG1 or MPEG2). With MPEG2 (usually a SVCD) you can use a lower bit rate and still be compliant. VCD MPEG1 is pretty strict. The tool you'll probably want to use is TMPEGENC (freeware) - (see the convert section)

If you provide more info people can suggest more specific answers

  3. Thanks for your response, it's an mpeg one file, I have tmpgenc but how do I make a 700 meg file out of it? Do I need to use a calculator? And how do I lower the bitrate in tmpgenc? Or is there a better program?

    Thanks

  4. If you select the VCD template in TMPEGENC and then load the unlock template you can change the bitrate but then you will not have a standard VCD but a xvcd (definition is under xcvd). Play with the settings or try some of the xvcd templates in the vcdhelp libary. Hopefully your player will play the file.

Otherwise you can cut it in 2 pieces and burn 2 VCDs.

    Hope this helps.

Someone told me to download Sefy's templates to use with TMPGenc from this site (tools area, I think) to get good, small MPGS. I have downloaded them, but haven't compared sizes yet.

I have found the quality of images to vary widely; recommendations to fluctuate wildely; and trying them to be of varying success. But, I can say that Sefy's templates do work to create files from TMPGenc, whereas trying settings I've seen people suggest to not work. Don't know why, in some cases, they look the same as in Sefy's templates. But there are so many settings in TMPGenc, there must be somthing I've missed, or they didn't remember to tell at the time.

The best quality picture I've found so far (I've only been doing this for a couple months and, I know others will argue this point) is from Nero. But it is sometimes finicky about whether or not it will create the VCD. I don't know how small Nero makes it compared to TMPGenc yet. I am basing my quality statement based on how an SVCD CD will play back on a 52" Big Screen Mitsubishi. Those TVs will really show up poor quality, based on that type of screen. So, the quality needs to be good for a satisfactory picture.

Probably just confusing you, but that's what I have to offer, for what it's worth.

    Good luck.
