Hi, I was wondering if someone has an idea of what to do here...

I bought a "Cure" concert cd-i that was for German distribution which means that it is in PAL format and I'm in the US.

I used ISO Buster to grab the files off of the cd-i. So, there are two discs, and they both have a music01.dat file.

I used vcdgear to convert the dat files to mpeg files.

Now, I've tried to make a vcd using Nero 5.x with the two different methods below and I'm confused with the results. My concern is that the quality of the final vcd will be better using method 2 rather than method 1...only if it would work the same for both discs, so I'm puzzled....anyone have any ideas? I don't understand why each method doesn't work the same on each disc. The steps for each method are below:

Thanks,

Marc

Method 1 results:

Nero:

Letting Nero re-encode the files makes the audio and video on disc1 to be out of sycnh, but disc2 is fine.

Method 2:

With out using nero for re-encoding, and instead using the steps below, disc01 is ok, but disc02 has the audio and video out of sync....

PAL VCD (25 Fps) -> NTSC (Film) VCD (23.976 Fps)
Load the source DAT file into TMPGEnc as the "Video Source" (the "Audio Source" selection should automatically change to match the "Video Source.").
NOTE: Cancel the Wizard dialog box which appears when you run TMPGEnc.

Select the "Wave file" item in the "Output to file" sub-menu of the "File" menu.
Choose a location and filename for the destination WAV file.
Click "Save" to decode and convert the audio from the DAT file to a temporary WAV file.

Use WSOLA.exe to slow down the audio using the following command line
DRIVE:\PATH\WSOLA DRIVE:\PATH\AVSEQxx.wav DRIVE:\PATH\NTSC.wav 1.04271

Note: i had to use besweet...couldn't find sola anywhere...

Load the WAV file created above into TMPGEnc as the "Audio Source."
Load the "VideoCD (NTSCFilm)" template into TMPGEnc.
Specify the location and name of the "Output file name" with an MPG extension.
Choose "Motion estimate search (fast)" or "Highest quality (very slow)" in the "Video" tab of the "Setting" dialog.
Check the "Do not frame rate conversion" in the "Advanced" tab of the "Setting" dialog.
Press "Start" to convert, encode and multiplex the video and audio.

Burning with Nero at this point won't of course ask to re-encode because its already done.
