Canopus ... Lets Convert

Purchased a Canopus ADVC-55 with Let's Convert software allowing a one click conversion to DVD from AV input , keep getting the following error

" Camera/Deck not detected. Check camera/deck is connected and the device is detected. When the device is connected , the input selection button should become available"

- I have checked all hardware / cables and they seem fine as it works with a trail version of Let's Edit.

Any ideas as to how to get this app working or a good cheap alternative, i'm running Win 2000 with SP4.

Have you tried another capture program such as DVapp or WinDV? They work perfectly well with the ADVC-50 (I understand that the 50 and the 55 are similar with the only difference that the 55 is powered from the Firewire).

I also wonder if it may be the black screen bug which you may find some help here to sort out:

In the past I have opened a capture program, completed a capture and when stopping the capture, loose the ADVC-50 signal. From your description, it worked with one program and not the other. Did you try then one after the other?

Edit: I read in a recent thread that pulling out the (six pin to six pin) powered firewire while your PC is on isn't a good idea as damage to the item can be caused. I mention this as this is one of the suggestions to beat the black screen issue with the ADVC-50.
