My WMP was working fine until I installed a Xvid codec pack- now it can't play .asf, .wmv, .wma files. I tried un-installing windows media player (actually it only let me roll-back to series 9, still no luck). When I use Gspot, it tells me that my DivX MPEG-4 DVD Video compressor is mis-configured. Could this be the cause of the problems? Whenever WMP tries to play a .wmv file, it crashes and offers to debug or send a error report. My other players (Winamp etc.) can play it fine, only WMP has problems. How can i fix this?

EDIT: Gspot tells me the problem with DivX MPEG-4 is the codec is not registered. Any answers?

    Uninstall the Xvid Codec

Install the WM9 CODECs from Microsft's site

Lastly, install FFDSHOW and tell it to decode Divx and Xvid files.
