How to fix overscan in AVI's when playing on TV? Re-encode?

Is there a simple, fast way to do this? If so, I need to re-encode avi's that I can't read the subtitles on when I play on my tv. Any help would be great, thanks.

I'm guessing that you can look into adjusting your TV overscan. Seems to me that the overscan might be a tad off if it's cutting off subtitles.

Otherwise you're going to have to re-encode and put some "filler" at the bottom/sides to "knock" the picture up a tad. I've never done that, but I'm fairly certain it can be done in AVISynth/TMPGEnc.

Anyway, Avisynth can do this. Just use the AddBorders() line. Or you can do it in TMPGenc.

The files you're playing were subtitled incorrectly -- at least for viewing on TV. All TVs overscan and properly subtitled video allows for this by not putting the subtitle too close to the edges.

You'll have to add borders (and maybe shrink the picture) and reencode to get the subtitles where you can see them. There are a million threads at this site discussing that issue.
