    Which companies use rebaged NEC-3500 drives?

    Yeah, well you can kiss the warranty goodbye when you flash it to a hacked FW, of course you dont have to flash it to one, but u wont be getting the most outta ur 3500 either.

    get a BENQ 1620 drive instead of a NEC. it offers automatic bitsetting without having to use any hacked firmware. it's a awesome drive. read about the rave reviews that cdfreaks and cdrlabs gave the drive.

    Careful buddy ... Most of the I/O Magic drives at Staples are rebadged BTC drives. These are much inferior to the BenQ drives. The only way to differentiate them is by looking at the DVD+R DL writing speed. Its 2.4x for the BenQ drive and 4x for all other rebadged drives.

    Actually, the last few firmwares for 1620's are 4x DL. And they are official firmware. I got mine Black Friday from Staples for $39.98 after rebates.
