It hasn't made it to the new software section yet, so I just thought I'd draw attention to the fact that there's finally an update to everyone's favourite MPEG encoder... yes TMPGEnc Plus has been updated with a new version released. Check out the Pegasus site and you'll find there's a new version out for the TMPGEnc AC-3 sound plug-in as well. Now up to v1.30.

Let's now see: Did he fix the PAL issues?

What "PAL issues" are you referring to? I convert everything to PAL wherever humanly possible when using TMPGEnc Plus and have never had an "issue" with doing it most effectively. Or are you talking about TDA?Originally Posted by SatStorm

No... TMPGenc does a great job, but does a better job with NTSC than PAL.
Old issues, not noticable to most users. You know: Macroblocks on fade in/outs, blocks on static backgrounds without an obvious reason...

I do recognise those things you describe as being a "normal" part of a TMPGEnc encode yes. I am very familiar with those things, but to be honest since 95% of all my encodes are from downloaded AVI source I just assumed those artifacts were from the AVI encoding and could not be justifiably blamed on TMPGEnc, afterall you can't expect an encoder to fix a problem created by an earlier encoder.Originally Posted by SatStorm
I have never seen those artifacts when I've re-encoded a full D1 MPEG taken from DVD, which is why I have always tended to blame the AVI encoder rather than TMPGEnc itself. Even when converting a full 29.97fps (stored as genuine 29.97 rather than 23.976 pulldown) interlaced DVD to progressive PAL with the IVTC and field matching done by AVISynth did I notice any particular "issues" with the TMPGEnc encode.
