  1. Hi,
Has anyone successfully created a menu with Nero? I created the menu ok but can't navigate. I have the menu page pause set at "infinite" and 5 sec pause between the chapters. I only have 2 mpg files to create 2 chapters on the
VCD. Please comment if you know the trick to make it work, thanks.

  2. Define can't navigate? Menus for x(S)VCDs aren't like DVD menus. They're actually just another MPEG file. The only keys that work on the number keys (0~9), << >>, stop, play and enter. The arrow keys don't work.

The default setting in Nero's menu (IIRC) is that track2 (your first clip, remember the menu is track1) you hit the #1 on the keypad. Give it a try.

With that said, Nero sucks are authoring menus. Take a look to the left under 'author' and click on the TSCV guide. It's a little harder to use but much much nicer.

  3. Vejita-sama,
Yes that was it. Can't navigate with the arrow keys but using the number keys is fine. Thanks. I'll try the TSCV.

This is my first menu made in Nero, just takes a little time and photoshop to get the background right. If I can make it, anyone can.

  6. Not sure how dav1dh did it, but here's how it's often done. First, VCDs don't support 'true' chapters like DVD. But they can have entrypoints. These work just like chapters, in that hitting << >> on the remote moves you to the next one. You can also use the keypad to go/jump to entrypoints. Nero (IIRC) doesn't allow you to select entrypoints.

You can create entrypoints with a XML script file and VCDImager. Although this isn't that hard, it's not very user friendly. Therefore, people use a GUI for VCDImager. The most popular being: VCDEasy and TSCV.

If you want to make menu's TSCV is the best. It has options for making motion menus & still menus (up to 9 levels deep), intro/exit MPEGs, chapters, etc. Again, read the guide to the left under Author. TSCV also comes bundled w/ CDRDAO a freeware burning program that can burn bin/cue files.

By combining TSCV (+VCDImager/CDRDAO), Photoshop, TMPGenc, and some creativity you can make some really nice x(S)VCDs.

What you do not want to do is make several small tracks (ie. multiple MPEGs) for each chapter. There will always be a pause between tracks.
