I keep seeing posts that MPEG-2 shoud be 480 X 480 in NTSC.
When I burn CDR at this -it is only 1/2 pix size on my Pioneer 343 DVD. When in 720 X 480 it fills screen normal pix. Only problem is ----pix and audio are choppy. Am using Sefy's SXVCD templates--- with 720 X 480 modification.
Think I read here to reduce bit rate for DVD player--problem is -- bit rate is grayed out in TMPEG-g!
    Any comment?
    Thanks

  2. Inorder to modify a template u need the load the template u want to modify and then load the "unlock.mcf" template. I dont remember if it comes with TMPGenc if so it's in the "extra(s)" folder within the Tmpgenc folder. If u don't have it then email me and I'll send it to u.

As far as ur resolution problem goes I'm sorry I don't think I can help. hope this helps u toward workin out ur problem. is maybe ur player set to PAL or have u played NTSC DVD or VCD, have they played okay and at what resolution

  3. First, MPEG-2 is not limited to 480X480. It's SVCD that limits to that resolution (for NTSC).
Second, a MPEG-2 at resolution 720x480 (DVD) needs a quite high bitrate to look good on the TV (I believed > 4000 kpbs). DVD disc have bitrate between 6000 and 9000 kpbs to achieve DVD quality.
Problem is most stand alone DVD players cannot handle CD-R at those high bitrate (choppy pic and sound, may burn the motor of the DVD player !!!).

  4. ok, i've written this at least 4 times in the past week and a dozen times overall. the pioneer players use SDE display extentions in the MPEG headers to properly scale the picture. many programs write these incorrectly, and many players simply ignore them. to get a 480x480 SVCD to play right on a pioneer player you need to fix your TMPG template as a text file, or download the 'fix12c.exe' program to take care of already-encoded files. the ATI captures are also incorrect, and they can be fixed by this program. the video bitrate of TMPG is too high for the pioneer players, which are technically not svcd players. knock it down to 2300.

here's a partial listing of threads to read how to fix this...
