I have recording software and recording card from pinnacle.
But Im only allowed to copy a movie from my DV camera and into the PC, through the firewire cable. ---- Is there any box that converts the signal from a RGB / Scart / Optical and out to a firewire output ?

Why don't you buy a firewire card. They cheap enough about £30.
You really don't want anologue if you have DV. That was the reason of having a DV camera so you don't use anologue. -
My point was, to convert the signal from a RGB cable to my Firewire card.
(I do have a firewire card, came with pinnacle studio +)
As I know, if you want to capture movie in 720x565.. or somthing, you have to buy a relatively expensive card.
So I was hoping that there where a solutions, that can convert the signals from my TV, Laserdisk and DVD to DV/Firewire.
(since I cannot copy the tape from TV to the videocam) -
The only solution then is to buy a DV bridge they range from £280 up wards.
They handle composite and s-vhs. The price you pay for a firewire card does not determin its resolution it fixed at 720x576 PAL 720x480 NTSC
Or you can buy a DV Tape dec, or record your footage on your DV camera form you S-vhs or Composite inputs from your devices.
You'll have no time facitily though unles you use some external program or your capture software supports it so you can't record Mondays program at 14:00 say on BBC2.
Not many things out put RGB other than sattelite / cable boxes but they have a composite option. You can buy RGB to Composite / S-VHS converters and if you are in the UK maplin sell these.
But in the end this will involve money. either buy A DV bridge not Hollywoood Dv. or a Standalone tape dec. Or use the Composite / s-vhs input on your DVcorder. -
This is super information! Thank you very much!
I have been planning on buying such a device, to hock up with my vcr, tv and laserdisk.
As I know from Sony, their DV recorder is very expensive.
So the best thing for me, would be a converter - cause I have other recording equitment.
Reason Im asking, Is.. I bought a rare movie from US, which is on LD. And this is the best quality available on the market for this movie.
I want to convert it to mpeg,.. record it onto my PC.
Then from the PC, I can transfer it to a DVD.
Problem is that most of the capture cards, (of low cost), doesnt capture movies larger than (usually) 350x450 .....
..what I mean; capture cards that can do 720x576 cost a fortune.
Please, do you have any links, products I might search for ?
I been looking at this:
