  1. I have decided I have had enough of the horiible scans my 411/811s HSOR is giving with tt02 and sony08d1 media, so i popped for the NEC 3500A. My question is, in troubleshooting my Liteon, I read alot about burners "learning" media. My Liteon burned really well with Ritek G04's but crappy when I changed media (I buy what is on sale). My q is:
I just bought a 50 pack of FujiFilm 8X +r (TT02) and a 50 pack of Sony 8x -r (Sony08D10, can I using them in an alternating manner? Will it prevent my NEC from learning one or the other better?

    Thx in advance!

No. And if you go over to www.cdfreaks.com and look in the NEC forum you can get alot of info on the drive and scans of the media you have.

  3. You should have absolutely no problem using any of those media (as long as they are not fakes) that you mentioned. Even if you alternate them with each burn.

I use them both on my 3500 without a hitch

    Happy Burning!

    Hi,
I replaced my Lite-on 411 with the NEC 3500 and am very pleased.
The lite on(and I'm usually a big fan), seemed kinda finicky with
media. Mine seemed to do well with Ritek or Fuji.
    Sony's were terrible.
I 've read that burners use a "preburn" area of the disc before
actually burning, so that the laser can properly calibrate.
This procedure would reset with each disc.
I don't think you should worry about the simple fact of
    using different discs.
Try to find what works best and buy a ton when on sale.
My NEC seems happy with anything that I throw at it.
So presently media brand is not a concern for me.
Presently, I'm beginning to think the cheapest stuff is
the best, but I'm sure others will want to correct me.
Fact is, I've experienced no problems with some very
cheap media, and excellent compatibility with my numerous
    players.
My old 411 can collect dust, with the NEC there's no going back.

    see ya

Hello-I recently replaced my NEC2500a with the 3500AG and find the drive to be just as good as the reliable 2500a. It burned 4X Ridata DVD+R at 8X with no errors and has worked with Ridata 4X DVD-R, Sony DVD+RW, Fuji DVD+RW and some discount DVD-R discs someone gave me, unsure of the manufacturer. Using stock 2.16 firmware.
Not sure about "learning" media. cd freaks would be the place to find out about it.

Me too, I've never heard this "learning" issue. I use at least 5 different brands of media including the "-" and "+" DVDs and have never come across a problem with them.
