    Hi,

I've been a Network/Systems Engineer for about 10 yrs now and you would think I could figure this one out
but alas I humbly bow to the experts for advice.

I need to burn a slide show of pictures w/ sound on a DVD to be played in DVD players.
I have the show set up and ready to go and am ready to burn.
My question is which media is best to use that will play on most payers for this type of project?
    Does r,w r+w, etc....matter?

I've nosed around a bit in the forums but It's just confusing me more

    Thanks!!

For best results, use either DVD+R or DVD-R. Do NOT use DVD+RW, DVD-RW or any DL media.

DVD-R is marginally more compatible than DVD+R. If you use DVD+R, you may need to set book type in your burner, if your burner allows it. This is a trick that fools older DVD players that think they can't play DVD+R discs into playing them because the disc identifies itself as DVD-ROM, which they can play. This nonsense is not required on modern DVD players and I don't worry about it, but if you don't know how old and/or crappy these DVD players might be, you might want to just stick to DVD-R. DVD-R doesn't require this special setting to work. Re-writable DVD discs and DL discs may have compatibility problems with some older players and should be avoided unless you are sure they will work.

Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden (you'll have to mail order these) are the only reliable DVD manufacturers that sell their discs in the USA. All other brands are inferior.

For best results, burn with the free ImgBurn program.

  4. It seems that almost any big name brand -R media has wide compatibility today.
