I am getting a DCD recorder cause. I love this site but fnd it difficult finding the beginner guides to making DVDs. I am not a total NOOB at recording media, just new to making video discs. Once i have the video, what settings/programs do i need to convert to make it compatible. Or what settings to use when i record it. What software is best to actually record it, what type of media works best (DVD-R, + etc, Brand).

Also i know the capacity in Data that a single layer DVD will hold, but how much video time? IF i reduce the bitrate will i lenghten time i can put on it?

    Hello,

Use a video bitrate calculator found in the tools section on the left to determine video length.

Dvdshrink is an excellent transcoder for dvd9 to dvd5 (single layer recordable). You need nero to burn with it or you can do iso and burn with dvd decrypter.

Mpeg2 is dvd standard, though if you convert the audio to 48khz you can use mpeg1 and fit more at lower quality. Tmpgenc dvd author, dvdlab, and dvd remake are several popular authoring packages used on this site.

Read through the media forum for suggestions for good media

thanks Kevin. I will look through them. Also i can put more more time on a dvd if i do lower bitrate? If i can make it TV quality that will be great. We have no problems with our cable here. Always crystal clear.
