  1. Impression Pro will not accept mp2 files. I used to merely change the file extention in the save file as option of TMPG from mp2 to mpa but for some reason it keeps reverting to mp2. Once the file is created I don't seem to be able to access the file extention to change it.

Any idea how I can force the file to be .mpa or change the file extention manually please?

Have you went into 'Folder Options'> Views> and unchecked "Hide extensions for known file types" ? That will show you the filetype. Haven't done it for a while, but I believe you should be able to rename them when you can see them.

Yes, and MP2 usually is synonymous with MPA. (Also with M2A, and probably MP1 and M1A) so it should be an easy fix.

M1A and M2A are not officially MPEG-audio names. Odd.

MPA is the same as MP2, pretty much
    MPA = MPEG Audio (any)
MP2 = MPEG Layer II Audio

Inasmuch as there is no "official" naming requirement, these were regularly used early on in MPEG encoders ('92-'97), but have since gone out of favor.

    'M1A' meant Mpeg Layer1 audio
    'M2A' meant Mpeg Layer2 audio

I've got a whole list (incl. VBS, ABS, etc) if you wanna see 'em...

Oh yeah, I'd be happy to see an expanded list from what I've already gotten. Post away. It'll go to good use.

Don't have the old written list in front of me, but the ones I've seen that come to mind:

    (MPEG1 specific)
    M1
    M1V (video stream)
    M1A (audio stream)
    M1S (system stream)

    (MPEG2 specific)
    M2
    M2V (video stream)
    M2A (audio stream)
    M2P (program stream)
    M2T (transport stream)

    (Audio specific)
    ABS ("audio basic stream")
    MP1 (mpeg layer 1)
    MP2 (mpeg layer 2)
    MP3 (mpeg layer 3)

    (Video specific)
    VBS ("video basic stream")

    (Generic MPEG)
    MPG
    MPEG
    MPE
    MPS ("program stream")
    MSS ("system stream")
    MTS ("transport stream")
    MMD (like philips pink-encoder output)
    DAT (like vcd track)

Of course, I could be wrong on a few of those...

edit: now that I look at it, it could be that M1A is layer1 and M2A is layer2, or it could be that M1A is mpeg1 (all layers) and M2A is mpeg2 (all layers). MPEG2 would include the low sample rate/bitrate extensions, the multichannel surround extensions, and possibly even the NBC (AAC) extension.
