  1. Hey everyone, I am not sure if this is the right section for this, but do you guys know what the difference in the a08 and 108 are? Also do you know if they come with the necc software to install the dvd burner??

It was suggested to me that this drive would be the way to go.

    thanks,

    Jimmy

The DVR-A08XL is a retail version That come's in a box with all the software included. The DVR-108 is a barebones unit with no software.

  3. the 108 is the OEM version of the A08. Luckily Pioneer will provide firmware updates for its OEM drives. Sony doesn't.

The A08 has a honeycomb chasis to reduce noise. The two drives are mechanically different.

The 108 (OEM) can be had at newegg for $79. No software.

The A08 (Retail) can be bought for $143. software included. No blank media.

Using >NIL:'s hacked firmware you can burn anything at 16x. May not read well but you can do it.

I have one of the retail A08 drives and it is nice and quiet.
