  1. Hello all,

I've had the surprise today to notice that i received new Ritek medias instead of the usual G04 i'm used to order. The media code is RITEKM02. So i've searched on the forum and found out that the G04 are discountinued !

I've always used those for their excellent compatibility on DVD home players and i've been very happy with them. What's the point with the M02 ? Are they better ? If yes, what's the differences ? Does anybody have any experience with them and know about their compatibility ?

I wonder about my futur orders

    Thank you.

EDIT : Alright, it seems now that the M02 are crap. So what is the best dye for DVD player compatibility ?

What Happened to Ritek DVD-R Quality???

Its crap and what are we doing about it???

    FACT

Recently it has been highlighted on many forums and discussion groups that the quality of discs produced by certain manufacturers has gone down hill. Click here for some examples.

To further compound the problem, Ritek, who previously set the standards for 4x DVD-R have now started using an inferior dye in many of their discs - the Ritek M02 dye. Our customers have been buying discs assuming they where G04 and inside the pack is an inferior M02 mixed in!!

As a result many of the major brands have switched over to other dyes. The disc that has totally blown everyone away is the new Datawrite Printable 8X. This disc is manufactured for Datawrite by CMC magnetics using a Mitsubishi Dye (same dye as verbatim and TDK).
I have no views on what is posted in this letter as i have not used any of the new Ritek M02 Dye. I have been happy with the G04 dye and seem to have no problems with the G05 dye either...

In the chain of "what works best" in terms of readbility, Ritek is actually mid to low on the totem pole. TY and MCC (and several other AZOs) are better.

Yeah, i've read many times in the forums that they were very good. But my first interest is the compatibility on DVD standalone players. As far as i know, the G04 were the best for that. So i'm wondering which dye could be an alternative. What about the G05 by the way ?

I've been using Prodisc S03 and haven't had a problem yet. Doing video transfers of the little one to send to grandparents, aunts, uncles etc, etc. Have approximately 20 different dvd types (Both standalone and PC DVD Roms) and no complaints about non-playability yet. In fact my mom's player would not play the G04 disks that I used to use, sent her a prodisc and it plays just fine.

A good playback test is to run a DVD at 8x FF and see if it sticks or plays. RITEK, more often than not, will stick. Cyanine based discs, same story. The better organics and AZOs, generally do not freeze.

    That's a test I run.

    Buy Taiyo Yuden from RIMA.COM

    Best media ... best price.

    Forget RITEK !

    P.S.
By "best price" I mean that RIMA.COM has the best price for Taiyo Yuden but Taiyo Yuden is not the cheapest DVD media there is ... but it is the BEST !

  13. I know that TY is the best media quality around but i'm still not convinced about the compatibility on DVD standalone players. And i don't know even know about the console (Xbox, PS2 ...) one.

I burn some films for my clients who distribute to several people, that's why the media must be played on almost every DVD players, like the G04. With them, i've *never* had any bad return in one year. Does anybody have a good experience into "DVD distribution" using with the TYG01 or TYG02 ?

    Thank you.
